What brings the two of you together? What do you have in common? Is it food, hobbies, your job, or is it decor? Yes, people can bond over many different things, and interior design is definitely one of them. After all, why not? If people can bond over fashion and movies, why not interior design? We're not just talking about romantic love here. Any relationship applies. And it is this that has inspired one of our most unique and wonderful stencil designs – our You Had Me At Shiplap Sign stencil. This stencil design says “You had me at” in a fancy font and “Shiplap” in a plain font. It offers up a wonderful mix of fonts that makes this stencil design casual, with a bit of class. And there are any number of things you can do with this stencil design. You can create stencil art and hang it in a room that is done in shiplap – you know, that lovely wooden board that you use as siding on one or more walls in a room to give it a seafaring look. What else can you do with this stencil design? Create artsy signs to hang in a home decor store, a home renovation store, or a building supply store. Paint it big in the window of a store. Create t-shirts you can sell at craft fairs. Create elegant signs to hang at your wedding. Heck, you can even paint this design right onto a shiplap wall! Seriously, all you need is right stencil size for the job and the right paint for the medium and you can create anything you want. Available stencil sizes include: 3” x 6” 5” x 11” 18” x 8” 11” x 24” 36” x 16” 48” x 22” 55” x 25” And be sure to choose one or more amazing colors to make this design pop. Once you have everything in hand, all you need to do is secure the stencil and paint like there's no tomorrow. And since this stencil is 100% reusable, you can easily wash it and store it away or pass it on to someone else you know who has a thing for shiplap or stenciling – or both!
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.
7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

- 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
- Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
- Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
- Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained
WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
