Sweet tea is a hot summer staple in the Southern states, so much so that in Georgia, the government announced they were going to pass a bill making it illegal to sell iced tea in a restaurant that didn't also sell sweet tea – as an April Fool's joke! They really do take their sweet tea seriously. And you should too. This refreshing sweetened style of iced tea is the only thing you need on a hot summer day. And it will inspire your DIY art and decor, particularly when you get your hands on our Sweet Tea stencil. The Sweet Tea stencil says the words, “Life needs more sweet tea and sunshine” in a combination of flourishing fonts. There is even a small jar of sweet tea with a few ice cubes floating in it. It's adorable and elegant and would make a great sign or piece of art in a home or a business. Just imagine this painted large on a café or restaurant window. Or perhaps on the wall or on a sign hanging inside. At home, you can create a fabulous piece of art to hang inside or outside, on your porch of course. You'll have to decide before you order your stencil because you'll need the right stencil size for your project. Using the stencil is probably the easiest part of this whole endeavor. All you need to do is secure it to the desired surface and brush, roll, or spray the paint in place. And washing the stencil is just as easy. Some warm soapy water and you're all set. It's durable and reusable so tuck it away. You'll want to use it again and again.

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
