A symbol of the Mexican Day of the Dead, the sugar skull is a decorative and edible skull to help mark the occasion. However, the sugar skull has been turned into all sorts of artwork because it is incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing. That's why we are so happy to bring you our gorgeous Sugar Skull Frida stencil, a design originally inspired by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This stencil combines the mystery of the sugar skull with the beauty of Frida and it's up to you to add the colors to make it truly come alive. The skull's face is decorated with stars and various elegant shapes, she wears earrings, and has a crown of roses. The detail is amazing, thanks to our precision laser cutting process. We also create the stencil in-house in a variety of sizes, including: 5” x 6” 8.5” x 11” 18” x 12” 24” x 18” 36” x 24” 48” x 32” 55” x 35” This range of sizes, means that you can find the right size to suit your artist needs. Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
