Starburst Quilt Block Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar
Throughout quilting history, there have been many different types of star patterns. You see, a quilt block pattern isn't some random combination of shapes. It is specific, deliberate, and has meaning. And one of the most popular and beautiful star patterns is the Starburst, which is why we have designed our incredible Starburst Quilt Block stencil. This is an easy way for any DIYer to have fun with the Starburst pattern without the labor-intensive, time-consuming task of quilting. In fact, this stencil is ideal for people who love quilt patterns but don't have the quilting experience they need to create it the traditional way. Using the Starburst Quilt Block stencil is so easy. All you need to do is secure it flat to the desired surface and paint in the pattern. You need to be sure you have the right stencil size for your needs, which you can choose from the following range of sizes: 6” x 6” 8” x 8” 12” x 12” 15” x 15” 20” x 20” 25” x 25” 30” x 30” 35” x 35” And you need to be sure you are using the right paint for the medium. This gives you the freedom to paint this design anywhere. Paint it on fabric and make your own “quilt.” Paint it onto the wall or window of a quilting supply store. Paint it onto canvas, metal, or wood to create gorgeous stencil art. You can even paint it big on the side of a barn or go smaller and paint it onto a t-shirt. The sky's the limit! And if you aren't convinced this stencil is right for your needs, check out our other quilt block stencils, such as the Sunshine Quilt Block stencil. Best of all, this stencil is durable and 100% reusable. All you need to do is wash it when you're finished with it and you can tuck it away or pass it on to someone you know who would love to use it. It will last for years with the proper care.
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.
7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL
- Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
- 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
- Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
- Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
- Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained
WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
