Sombrero Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar
Whenever we see a sombrero, we automatically think of Mexico or the Southwestern U.K. It's the hat of the siesta, keeping the hot sun off one's face and head. It is big and bold, and in Spanish, sombrero literally means “shadower.” Traditionally made of straw, the sombrero can be plain or embellished with decorations. It is truly a wonderful hat and we have captured its essence in our awesome Sombrero stencil. The Sombrero stencil shows an image of a simple sombrero, decorated with a zigzag pattern around the brim and the crown. It's fun and can be painted in many colors. You can paint a border pattern of sombreros on a wall in a Mexican restaurant, large on the restaurant window, on the side of a large vase, on a garden wall, or as stencil art. Really, you can paint it anywhere, on it's own or with another stencil design, such as our Quince Fiesta stencil. To use the stencil, decide on your project, then order the correct stencil size for your needs. We laser cut the Sombrero stencil in the following sizes: 5” x 6” 5” x 11” 18” x 12” 24” x 18” 36” x 24” 48” x 32” 55” x 35” Then get the right paint for the medium in the colors of your choice. This is where the true versatility lies, the right paint making any surface fair game. To use the stencil, secure it to the desired surface and paint. Just be sure to wear a sombrero if you're out painting in the sun. Then you can wash your stencil and store it away or pass it on to someone else who loves Mexican-inspired art.
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
