Rustic Mercantile Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar
Mercantile is a rather old-school name for a store, but it brings with it a feeling of genuine authenticity and class. It's easy to picture old London streets, or perhaps a shop in the New World, where you could by all the things you needed to get started in your new life in America. Whatever images the word mercantile conjures up in your mind, you will love our Rustic Mercantile stencil. This stencil has the word MERCANTILE in a semi-causal font that would look perfect on a store sign or window or on a piece of rustic art hanging in your home. You can make signs or artwork to sell. And with the right paint for the medium, you can literally paint this stencil design anywhere you want. Paint it on walls, windows, paper, canvas, wood, metal, or plastic. Just imagine creating a Rustic Mercantile sign on a worn piece of metal. And since we offer the stencil design in a range of sizes, you will be able to find just the right size for your needs. Available sizes include: 3” x 6” 5” x 11” 18” x 8” 11” x 24” 36” x 16” 48” x 22” 55” x 25” Your biggest challenge might just be deciding how to use this stencil and what color to use. You can also pair it with another rustic stencil, such as our Rustic Bakery stencil, for a completely unique design. Using the stencil is so easy. Secure it to the surface and paint and in just minutes you will have an image that everyone will think a professional painted. When you are done, all you need to do is wash the stencil in some warm, soapy water, using a little paint thinner if you want. Then tuck it away to use again and again as needed, or to lend to friends and family.
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
