The question mark has been used ask far back as the 8th century, although no one can agree on its origins. But no matter. Your biggest question isn't where the question mark came from – it's what to do with it. You can really have fun with Question Mark stencils. Use it along with any of our letter stencils, such as the Rufina Letter stencil, to create questions you can use in stencil art or write across a wall. This might be a great way to decorate the walls of a book store. Or you can put this mark in a window to draw people into your store. The sky's the limit in part because we create the Question Mark stencil in a range of sizes, including: 5” x 6” 8.5” x 11” 18” x 12” 24” x 18” 36” x 24” 48” x 32” 55” x 35” However, the flexibility doesn't stop there. You can paint this stencil design on any surface imaginable, as long as you are using the right paint for the medium. Paint it on walls, glass, canvas, metal, plastic, wood, or fabric. Make a question mark cake with this food-grade mylar stencil. Anything goes! Using the stencil is so simple it's mind-boggling. Just secure it to the surface with some tape and apply the paint with a spray, brush, or roller. Then because this stencil is 100% reusable, you can simply wash it and store it away until you or someone you know has another burning question to ask.
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
