Prairie Star Barn Quilt Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar

The prairie star – also known as a prairie flower – is perhaps one of the most popular traditional quilt block patterns there is. It is bold and beautiful and has been done in so many ways over the decades, there are endless possibilities in how to create this pattern. Fortunately, you don't actually have to know how to quilt to enjoy the prairie star. We have put our own spin on it and created our stunning Prairie Star Barn Quilt stencil. This stencil has an arrangement of squares and triangles that create a beautiful star-like pattern that would look incredible just about anywhere. As the name of our design suggests, you could go big and paint it onto the side of a barn. You can also take it down a notch or two and create a work of art you can hang in your home, give as a gift, or sell at craft shows. Quilt block t-shirts would be popular. This pattern on the side of a vase, a lamp base, or another decorative piece would work nicely. The sky's the limit! Yes, this stencil design is very versatile and that is for two reasons. One is the fact that with the right type of paint, any surface is fair game. Walls, glass, metal, canvas, fabric, paper, wood, and more. And the other source of versatility comes from the range of sizes we offer this stencil in, which includes: 6” x 6” 8” x 8” 12” x 12” 15” x 15” 20” x 20” 25” x 25” 30” x 30” 35” x 35” So, if you have a project in mind, get your stencil and paint and get ready for the easiest DIY you've ever done. Want some other quilting stencil options? How about our Home Sweet Home Barn Quilt stencil? Regardless of which stencil you use, just secure it to your chosen surface and paint, paint, paint. The results will look so amazing, you might not want to stop. Yet, when you do, cleanup is a breeze, then you can save this reusable stencil for the next time your quilting and stenciling urges come upon you.

Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:

  • FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
  • EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
  • REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
  • DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

  • Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
  • 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
  • Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
  • Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
  • Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
