Polka Dots Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar

Did you know that in the Middle Ages, polka dots weren't popular? In fact, they were considered unpleasant and represented impurity and disease because they resembled the rashes of deadly diseases during that time period. Fortunately, machines made it possible to make the polka dot stencil uniform and more pleasing to the eye and the disdain for them faded. This pattern was made popular in the 1920s. It began when Miss American wore a polka dot swimsuit in 1926 and was helped along by Mini Mouse in her signature red and white polka dot dress and bow. If you love polka dots, then you will love our incredibly flexible Polka Dot stencil. This stencil offers you a way to paint a pattern of evenly spaced polka dots in any color you wish and on any surface you wish. You can choose from a range of sizes, including: 6” x 6” 8” x 8” 12” x 12” 15” x 15” 20” x 20” 25” x 25” 30” x 30” 35” x 35” Just get the right paint for the surface material and you can create a polka dot wall in a room in your home. Or you can paint a table top or bench seat in polka dots. It's easy to line up the stencil to ensure the spacing is even and the orientation is perfect every single time, allowing you to cover even large surfaces quickly and easily. Wood, glass, plastic, metal, walls, canvas, concrete, and more – you can do it all. To use the polka dots stencil, secure it flat to the surface, and apply the paint using a roller, brush, or spray. Then remove the stencil carefully for a perfect image every time. When you are done, wash the stencil with warm soapy water and a little paint thinner if needed and put it away until either you or someone you know gets the urge to paint polka dots once again.

Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:

  • FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
  • EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
  • REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
  • DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

  • Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
  • 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
  • Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
  • Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
  • Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
