Pirate Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar
Pirates hold a place of mystery and intrigue in our lives today. These were men that roamed the seas, pillaging other ships at sea and making their way through the world at the expense of others. The pirate ship flag depicting the Jolly Roger was traditionally flown to identify a pirate ship that was about to attack. Often depicted as a skull and crossbones, the Jolly Roger can also be shown with a skull and crossed swords. In fact, this was the Jolly Roger that was flown by Calico Jack Rackham, a famous pirate captain that operated in the Bahamas. And it is this Jolly Roger that our Pirate stencil offers. The Pirate stencil shows the skull, below which are the crossed swords in intricate detail. This is an absolutely fabulous stencil design to pair with our Pirate Ship stencil. If you have a child who is enamored with everything pirates, this would be a great way to decorate his bedroom. You could paint a large mural on his bedroom wall, or decorate his furniture with the stencil design. Big or small, we make it possible by offering the Pirate stencil in a range of sizes, including: 5” x 6” 8.5” x 11” 18” x 12” 24” x 18” 36” x 24” 48” x 32” 55” x 35” Painting anything from handmade greeting cards to the set of a play or the window of a store is possible with our Pirate stencil. You can even decorate a cake with it because it is food-grade quality mylar. All you need is the right size stencil and the right paint (or icing) for the medium. Then secure the stencil and get painting. Cleanup is simple, too. Just wash the stencil with warm water, soap, and a little paint thinner if necessary. Then you can store this 100% reusable stencil away until you need it again.
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.
7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL
- Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
- 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness

- Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
- Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained
WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
