Night Skies Firefly Jar Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar

Nighttime is one of the most beautiful and peaceful times of the day. When the sun goes down, you get to see things that you can only see in the dark. The stars in the night sky and fireflies are two of the most amazing sights. In fact, if you have ever seen a bunch of fireflies in a garden, you will know how much they actually look like twinkling stars, mirroring the night sky above them. Well, we wanted to capture at least a tiny bit of the beauty of nighttime, so we created our Night Skies Firefly Jar stencil. This stencil is stunning in its design and so perfectly captures the atmosphere of the nighttime firefly hunt under the light of the starry sky. It has the words “Night” written above the jar, and “Skies & Fireflies” written on the jar in a casual, fine font. There are stars around the jar, a moon on the jar, and fireflies in the jar. This has to be one of the funnest, liveliest designs we have ever created! Of course, you are going to have to do the hardest part of your DIY project first – you're going to need to choose your project. Is it painting this as stencil art, creating graffiti art, painting it in glow-in-the-dark paint on your child's bedroom wall or on a sign in your garden? Once you know what you will do, you can get the right paint for the medium and the right stencil size from the following range of sizes: 5” x 6” 5” x 11” 18” x 12” 24” x 18” 36” x 24” 48” x 32” 55” x 35” Once you have everything in hand, all you need to do is set aside a few minutes of your day for the project. That's all it takes to secure the stencil, paint, and remove and clean the stencil. And best of all, with the proper care, this stencil can be used again and again for many years, making it the perfect DIY investment.

Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:

  • FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
  • EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
  • REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
  • DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

  • Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
  • 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
  • Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
  • Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
  • Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
