Gears Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar

Gears make our lives so much easier. Whether it's the gears of a clock, the gears in a windmill, or the gears in any other type of machine, these little cogs use the laws of physics to ensure parts can move and our lives can move on. Sometimes, it's fun to paint gears on artwork or craft projects in a DIY way, or even to add to the decor of a room in your home or business. But the cogs are so hard to paint on their own that you might need a little help. That help is here in the form of our Gears stencil, which shows a series of seven interlocking gears of various sizes. The detail in this stencil design is truly amazing. Paint these gears into the decor of your child's room, right onto the wall or onto furniture. Paint them onto the set of a play if you are creating a mechanical backdrop. You can even combine it with our Robot stencil for some pure mechanical fun. There are limitless possibilities! The key to the versatility of the Gears stencil is simple. We offer the stencil in a wide range of sizes to suit any project. Available sizes include: 3” x 6” 5” x 11” 18” x 8” 11” x 24” 36” x 16” 48” x 22” 55” x 25” Add to this the fact that as long as you have the right type of paint for the medium, you can paint this design anywhere and you have the formula for DIY success. What kinds of surfaces are we talking about here? Surfaces like walls, glass, wood, metal, canvas, plastic, and fabric. Anything you can think of! When it's time to paint, gather all your materials, secure the stencil to the surface, and paint using a brush, roller, or spray. Then you can remove the stencil for a perfect image every single time. This stencil is 100% reusable, which makes it the perfect DIY investment. Simply wash it and store it safely away after each use and you will have it for a lifetime.

Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:

  • FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
  • EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
  • REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
  • DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

  • Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
  • 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
  • Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
  • Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
  • Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
