Cotton Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar

Cotton is a wonder material, produced by nature and used by us in so many different ways. The biggest use of cotton is in our clothes and bedding, but we also use cotton in our furniture and there are many industrial uses. Think book bindings, medical supplies, and zipper tapes. And all of this from the soft puffy white stuff that grows on a plant. Cotton is truly amazing and quite beautiful in its natural setting. To bring that natural cotton to you, we have created our Cotton stencil. This stencil design shows cotton growing on the plant, in its fullness and ready to be picked. It's beautiful and simple and can bring life to many DIY projects. With our range of stencil sizes, you can easily find the right size for your needs. Use our smallest stencil size to make handmade greeting cards or create a wall border. Go a little bigger and create stunning stencil art on canvas, wood, or metal. You can even paint it large on a wall or window to make it the centerpiece of a room's decor. And you can combine this design with any of our other Nature stencils, such as our Lavender stencil. We laser cut the Cotton stencil in the following sizes: 5” x 6” 5” x 11” 18” x 12” 24” x 18” 36” x 24” 48” x 32” 55” x 35” Besides the right stencil size, you do need one other thing to paint this design anywhere you want – the right paint for the medium. Once you have this, any surface is fair game. Get a soft off-white for the cotton balls and a nice brown for the stem and you are ready to rock and roll. Plus, painting is so easy, it will take just a few minutes from setup to cleanup. Simply secure the stencil, paint, and remove it for a perfect image. Then clean the stencil with warm, soapy water and you can tuck it away until you need it again.

Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:

  • FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
  • EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
  • REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
  • DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

  • Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
  • 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
  • Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
  • Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
  • Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
