Today it's our most well known symbol for travel and exploration. We made our compass stencil with the original seafaring explorers in mind. Now you can put this classic symbol wherever you want in an assortment of different sizes. By far one of our most popular designs, our highly detailed nautical compass stencils  is perfect for crafts and decor. The compass rose can be used on a variety of surfaces. Since it's so detailed it'll need to be secured before painting to ensure every fine detail is captured. Our large compass stencils go all the way up to 35''x35'' if you're trying to stencil a compass on concrete or a large piece of furniture. Our customers love how detailed this stencil of a compass is compared to more simplistic compass designs on the market. The variety of surfaces you can use this stencil on ranges all the way from a sidewalk to glass. Made from mylar, which is a durable plastic-like material. Mylar stencils are very easy to use over and over again on many different surfaces. The amount of possibility with this compass template is endless. You can use multiple colors on different sections thanks to how detailed it is. Different colors for north, east, south, and west will make a legible but artsy design. Plus, all of the different sizes will allow for many different projects and applications.

Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:

  • FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
  • EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
  • REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
  • DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.

7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL

  • Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
  • 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
  • Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
  • Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
  • Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?

As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.

Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.

There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
