Betsy Ross Stars Stencil - Reusable - 7.5 MIL (190 Micron) Thick Mylar
The Betsy Ross stars come from the original flag used by the UK when there were just 13 states in the union. As the legend goes, Betsy Ross convinced George Washington to use five-pointed stars in place of the six-pointed ones originally proposed. Unfortunately, at that time she didn't have access to StencilRevolution's laser cutting equipment and so everything had to be crafted by hand. She argued—successfully—that the five-pointed variety was simply easier to cut. To this day, that's star we use on our flag. Honor Betsy's contribution to our heritage by ordering today and adorning your walls, doors, and kitchen cabinets with a little taste of history. If you'd prefer to paint the current American flag, try this American Flag stencil on for size. Or, continue diving into your nation's history with the iconic “Don't Tread on Me” design known as the Gadsden Flag. They're great for decorating a man cave, garage, or any surface that needs to be thoroughly Americanized. As with all our products, your reusable Betsy Ross Stars stencil is proudly designed and built in the United States using American Mylar. Mylar is a tough, durable material (kind of like the American people) that can stand up to repeated use. Simply clean with a little warm water after each stencil session. If you'd like, you can even use a solvent like acetone; the material is tough enough to withstand even the heaviest industrial paint thinners. Upon ordering, you'll be asked what size you'd like your Betsy Ross stencil to come in. We'd like to remind you that the sizes listed are for the entire stencil, not the circle of stars itself. This is important, because we include a .75” inside margin. If the project you have in mind is very precise and requires an exact size, this is worth bearing in mind before you order.
Here are some advantages of using Mylar stencil material:
- FLEXIBLE: Mylar can wrap around cylinders and uneven or irregular surfaces, and can be rolled for shipping and storage.
- EASY TO CLEAN: Our Mylar is solvent proof, so cleaning up paint or ink is quick and simple.
- REUSABLE: Our stencils are built to withstand normal painting wear and tear, and keeping your stencil template clean is the best way to ensure a longer life.
- DURABLE: Mylar sheets are reputably the strongest type of stencil material, and maintains durability without compromising the pliable structure.
7.5 MIL MYLAR STENCIL MATERIAL
- Medium Weight. Feels as thick as card stock
- 7.5 Mil (0.19 mm) thickness
- Very flexible for tight curves and cylinder shapes
- Recommended for fine detailed craft stencils and smaller stencils
- Reusable as long as they are kept clean and well maintained
WHY DO WE RECOMMEND MYLAR?
As mentioned before, the best way to achieve a perfectly painted stencil with a very nice paint edge is to use a stencil material that is as thin as possible for your project. At the same time, you also want a material that wont absorb paint or any liquid because this will cause the stencil to deteriorate. A stencil made from paper, cardstock or paperboard will become saturated with paint or ink rather quickly, and this causes a crusty, uneven edge that can never be removed.
Another option for stencils, and one that quickly comes to mind when we discuss durability, is metal stencils. While these thick, unbendable stencils do have their place for some industrial applications where paint overspray and running doesnt quite matter as much, they can be very expensive and heavy to ship.
There are some other plastics that are used for stencil manufacturing, but these are typically cut with a die cutter so there is a limited amount of detail that can be achieved. And because this older, traditional process takes so much work and expense to set up for each stencil design, the minimum are often in the 1000s.
